Our Learning Strategies
Reading
We place the highest emphasis on teaching our children to read. To enable us to have a consistent approach to the learning of phonics and reading, we use a programme called Read, Write Inc. This is a proven phonics scheme and we are delighted with the results we are achieving. We hold parent information meetings to explain how you can support your child at home.
Once children have progressed through the Read, Write Inc programme, they are ready to read independently and develop higher order reading skills. Teacher led guided reading sessions take place in Key Stage 2 and we use a motivational programme to support independent reading called Accelerated Reader.
Maths
We have clear calculation policies (in line with the White Rose Maths scheme) which enables the same strategies and methods to be taught across the school. Every day starts with a maths lesson and we promote mental maths strategies through maths fluency and times tables.
